Multi-Perspective Analysis of Household Carbon Dioxide Emissions from Direct Energy Consumption by the Methods of Logarithmic Mean Divisia Index and σ Convergence in Central China

Currently, household carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions (HCEs) as one of the leading sources greenhouse gas (GHG) have drawn notable scholarly concern. Thus, here, taking six provinces in period 2000–2017 Central China a case, we analyzed characteristics and driving factors HCEs from direct energy consumption three perspectives: whole, urban-rural differences, inter-provincial comparison. The drivers were by Logarithmic Mean Divisia Index (LMDI). σ convergence was adopted for analyzing trend differences on HCEs. key findings are follows. First, all perspectives had an obvious growth trend. total grew 9596.20 × 104 tonnes 2000 to 30,318.35 2017, with increase 2.16 times. Electricity coal use primary sources. urban rural increases up 2.57 times 1.77 times, respectively. gap narrowed first then widened. varied significantly, but narrowing. Second, whole per capita expenditure demand main increment HCEs, cumulative contribution rates 118.19% 59.90%. price effect mainly responsible mitigation Third, similar drivers’ can also be seen perspective However, difference, population structure played reverse influence both areas. raising prices appropriately, upgrading residents’ sustainable pattern, controlling size reasonably, optimizing might effectively mitigate China.
